DYE AND KNIT -WORKSHOP IN DETAIL

Learn the basics of knitting and how to dye with plants. You are welcome to join if you are a beginner or just want to learn more! Learning together and from one another is part of the fun.

During these workshops you will learn:

  • the whole process of dyeing wool with natural dyes from local plants.

  • the basics of knitting in continental style.

  • to make a design for an individual knitting project, dye the wool and get started.

The workshops include 10 hours of dyeing and knitting. You will go home with a ton of confidence, formulas and samples, dyeing tips and notes to help you to dye on your own. The cost of all three workshops is 200 dollars per person including all plant dyes and mordants, knitting needles, a ball of wool, patterns and wool for samples. The wool for individual projects will be charged by consumption.The amount of participants is 4-8 people.

1ST SATURDAY FROM 10 AM UNTIL 3 PM

  • Start by designing! Choosing the project and yarn and designing colors. (Eucalyptus leaves, lichen, acorn, broom, pine cones, onion skins, etc)

  • Preparing the wool for dyeing (mordanting).

  • Preparing the dye bath from plants.

  • Project planning. While the plants are boiling we will make the final design of the hat / hand warmers / scarf etc. with measurements and details.

  • Dyeing the wool.

  • Learning the basics of knitting. While the wool is simmering in the dye bath, we learn how to cast stitches and the basics of knitting.

  • The yarn will be left in the dye bath to cool and will be rinsed and dried ready for you for the next workshop.

2ND SATURDAY FROM 10 AM UNTIL 3 PM:

  • Getting started by admiring the hues of the wool!

  • Reeling the skeins and begin your projects (hat / hand warmers / scarf)

  • Working on your own projects.

  • Instructions for knitting at home :)

Please, bring your own lunch and snacks.

Please, note that we will be outdoors for dyeing. In case of heavy rain, we have an option of working under a roof. For your comfort, dress warmly and consider bringing a pair of comfy and warm indoor sandals, since my studio has a cement floor.

Also, bring your own lunch and snacks. Hot drinks will be available.
